Queer Migrant Dinners
Coming from the Parsi community, food is cen- tral to everything we do. Personally, I’ve always found sharing a meal to be an intimate and caring act. I love cooking and cooking with friends and family. However, when I moved to the Netherlands in 2020, I often found myself eat- ing alone. This project emerged from a desire to recreate the commu- nal dining experiences I cherish and to build a supportive community around food.

From intimate gatherings of five to large dinners of twenty the queer migrant dinners have take many different forms. Each dinner has a theme. For example, the queer migrant cook book dinner, where we created a cookbook together through the course of the dinner.
At some point the dinners were funded by Stichting Dona Daria and at other points I use budget or funds from displaying the queer migrant table clothes to host the dinners.

The queer migrant dinners are about family and togetherness, sitting around a table, often for the first time, and loving and accepting one another as they are in that moment. Since the project began, I’ve seen many friendships bloom, not only between the guests and myself but also among the guests. This project has reignited my love for cooking by giving me many people to cook for. It has brought me love, acceptance, and a family of friends, my queer migrant family.
